Ashley Chiaramonte - Day 1

Today we finally arrived in Dublin after a long flight from Charlotte, North Carolina. Our very first stop after arriving in Ireland was Galway. Galway is a town that is similar to our very own Pittsburgh in respect to population. In this town, there are about one million people and about four million lamb and sheep present here. Interestingly enough, the people in this city are rather young in age. In fact, this town actually relies on the younger generation as college students bring commerce to the city. About 15% of the students here are American foreign exchange students from Boston College and Penn State.
It is also in Galway that we see the presence of the claddagh ring. This ring is special because of its structure: a pair of hands holding a heart and a crown. When a person wears this ring, they are telling the world ONE of two things: they are taken OR they are single. The meaning behind the ring all depends on how you wear the ring. If you have the heart facing you (or rather your heart), then you are 'taken.' Likewise, if the heart is facing away from you, then you are free and unattached.
