The Vikings were one of the early settlers of Dublin. There are pieces of them in the city near the arch way. The streets of Dublin used to be covered in water and boats would pass through the arch way shown below.
Trinity College was ginormous and was covered in cobblestone and they just recently put in paved walkways. We ate at one of the college's cafeterias and the food was great. I tried lamb for the first time and I actually liked it and I'm a picky eater.
It rained off and on today but the weather held up fairly nicely. We toured the National Library of Ireland. We saw the Yeats Exhibiton and got to see his rough drafts and learned a little about his life. I also got to see the Reading Room which was absolutely stunning. We got to see old catalog books that date back a couple decades and were probably the original catalogs. In the room, you had to be extremely quiet. It was so neat!
We had a few hours of free time after in which our tour guide directed her to a bus. Our stop was the Guinness Storehouse and the Gravity Bar had a great view of Dublin. After the Gravity Bar, I rushed to Temple Bar, a shopping center, and bought a few souvenirs for my family. We then had to rush back to get ready for dinner at Brazen Head, the oldest pub in Ireland!
Within Brazen Head we ate a delicious meal and got to enjoy listening to traditional Irish music. We also got to hear a musical story. It was such a cultural experience and was way too interesting and exciting to experience.
Again, Ireland is going to be so so so hard to leave but I'm excited for Scotland!
