Hi everyone! I didn't get a chance to blog last night because my wifi wasn't working. Yesterday I got to explore the Edinburgh castle, and wow it was very cool. At first I was confused because it was not what I expected. Instead of the castle being one big connected building, the castle had multiple parts that you had to go outside in order to get to. While at the castle I had the honor of watching a very respected, once a year event: The changing of the guards. The changing of the guards is just as it sounds, yesterday marked the first day that new guards were assigned to watch over and protect the castle. I was most surprised by their outfits, because I didn't expect the soldiers to be wearing kilts. Regardless, even in a kilt they still manage to look intimidating. While at the castle I got to see a demonstration on how to make a kilt out of a long piece of cloth. After that I got to see some of the crown jewles. I was hoping I would get lucky and they would do a tourist give away of some nice diamond earrings, but they did not, in fact you are not even allowed to take pictures of the crown jewles, but know that they were very shinny and expensive looking. After the castle tour I found a shop on the Royal Mile that had a live owl and we're letting tourists pet it. Of course I had to try and surpringly the man who owned the owl actually let me hold it. (The pictures of everything I did yesterday can be found in Ethan's blog.) After the castle we went to the Writer's museum and I got to learn a lot about the life of the author who wrote Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. After some more window shopping we all got ready for dinner. At dinner I had a chicken sandwich and for desert a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream on top. Finally, to conclude our evening we went to the King's Theatre where we got to watch the play "The King's Speech" which as the name suggests was about s king and his speech impediment issues which caused him to have a difficult time in political situation where he would need to address the country. All and all it was pretty good, but I was surprised that at the end the crowd did not give a standing ovation. Our tour guide told me that was because the people of England have higher expectations so they do not stand up for every play they see, only the ones that truly amaze them. Talk about a tough crowd! Now I am about to get ready for the last chapter of my Study abroad adventure and it is bittersweet. Be sure to tune in for one final adventure!
P.s. A very special thank you goes out to my family without them I would've never had this opportunity, so thank you guys!
Sincerely, Hollie Dickson
