Eric Cosmides Day 4

Captain's log, stardate, 51815.4

Today we were on a walking tour of Dublin. We began near the River Liffey, there is a slight incline from the river up to a wall that was the gate of Dublin. We proceeded to the Christ Church Cathedral where there were archaeological digs that discovered the remains of ancient Viking structures and tools. We visited the old Dublin Castle and memorial gardens for the Garda. Then we went to the Temple Bar which is a shopping area that dates back to the early 1700's, we only passed through here on our way to Trinity College where we learned more about W.B. Yates. Trinity College has a mix of modern and classic architecture which is very appealing. We also viewed the national library, which has a W.B. Yates exhibit running because this year marks the 150th anniversary of his birthday. After this exhibit we got on a bus to tour the Guinness Stock House where we learned about the ingredients and brewing process of Guinness, afterwards we went to the "gravity bar" which had some spectacular views of Dublin. I met two German students from Duisburg who were on tour with a friend of theirs who was studying in Ireland. One student knew of the Pittsburgh Penguins and will be coming to Ann Arbor to study Biomedical Engineering. After touring at the Guinness Stock House, I thought we would be able to catch up to the group at the Temple Bar but when we got there I couldn't find anyone from the group and so we walked back to the apartment to be on time for dinner at the Brazen Head, which is the oldest pub in Ireland and dates back to late 1100. After the pub we returned for the night to pack for Scotland in the morning.
